“BOTH SIDES" Hardback book by Blandine Anderson
Most books for the adult reader are either plain and unadorned, or broken up with a few illustrations or photographs.
BOTH SIDES is intended to be an exciting picture book for adults which at the same time works as a read through narrative. Attempting to make both of these elements work comfortably within the same book was a difficult task.
The theme of the book is a year in the life on a Devon smallholding, set around the shepherding year, which begins in November when the rams are introduced to the ewes. Inspired by the author’s personal experience and detailed observations of nature, the book tells the tale of the lives of wildlife and domestic animals on the holding from BOTH SIDES – looking at the highs and lows, good days and bad, times of feast and times of famine. For the sake of balance and authenticity it was essential to take a warts and all approach, some of the events related here might be hard to read but were equally difficult to write.
Each of the 26 original ceramic pieces which illustrate the book has two distinct sides, BOTH SIDES showing a different aspect of this year-long experience.
“BOTH SIDES” STANDARD EDITION (UNLIMITED COPIES).
Cover size approx. 22 x 22 cm.
Cover design taken from the stoneware piece entitled “Animals”, (reverse of “Map”) which is illustrated within the book.
